The story of the strangest deal in the history of Manchester United

Irishman Paul McGrath, former Manchester United defender, revealed a strange situation he was exposed to at the end of his career with the Red Devils.

McGrath played in Manchester United from 1982 to 1989, where Scottish Sir Alex Ferguson, the historic coach of the Devils, led him at Old Trafford between 1986 and his departure to Aston Villa at the end of the eighties.

McGrath played 83 international matches with the Republic of Ireland between 1985 and 1997, including his country's five matches in the 1990 World Cup in Italy.

"One time Sir Alex took me into a room and told me to stop playing football, just like that," McGrath told the Telegraph.
Regarding the details of the story, he explained: "He told me that he was ready to pay me 100,000 pounds sterling in order for me to stop playing football and return to Ireland, and this amount at that time was not small."

And he continued, “I contacted my teammates Kevin Moran and Bryan Robson, I wanted to play, because I still have a lot to offer.”

The secret behind Ferguson's request from McGrath to retire immediately was to get rid of the alcohol-drinking philosophy of Manchester United in the early years of his career.
